Green Hills partners with Agilent Technologies, providing developers with efficient, high-performance emulation probe.

Santa Barbara, CA. July 31, 2001 -- Green Hills Software today announced that it has been licensed to resell and offer front-line customer support for Agilent Technologies' (NYSE:A) family of embedded target emulation probes, including the E5900A, E5900B, E5902, and E5904B. Green Hills will continue to offer comprehensive support for these probes in its MULTI Integrated Development Environment, including advanced trace support that enhances the debug process by providing greater visibility into programs as they execute on the target system.

Agilent "As an Agilent reseller, Green Hills offers embedded designers an integrated one-stop-shop solution that encompasses both software development tools and emulation hardware," said John Carbone, vice president of marketing at Green Hills. "The MULTI debugger, together with Agilent's probes, provide advanced register and memory read/write, trace, single-step and processor control facilities that give the MULTI debugger unique visibility into the execution of sophisticated embedded programs."

"We're pleased to have Green Hills on board as an Agilent reseller," said Alois Hauk, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Design Validation Unit in Colorado Springs, CO. "Green Hills' MULTI IDE takes full advantage of the advanced emulation capabilities of Agilent's probes. And their technical expertise in the software development arena makes them an ideal point of sales and technical support."

The MULTI debugger, utilizing Agilent's probes, gives designers complete access to, and control over, embedded target processors. Hosted on a Unix or Windows system, the MULTI debugger connects to Agilent's emulation probes through an Ethernet interface. The probes, in turn, connect to the target system via standard debug interfaces such as JTAG ports.

The MULTI debugger, in conjunction with Agilent's probes, can upload data from the target processor, run, halt, and reset the processor, read/write the processor's registers and memory, single-step through code, and set breakpoints. MULTI provides advanced trace capabilities that, when used with the E5904B probe, enable it to acquire target data and program flow information as the program executes without having to halt the processor. MULTI also takes full advantage of the E5900B's high-speed emulation capability, which streamlines the debug process for large programs by enabling the debugger to download those programs to the target in seconds rather than minutes.

The MULTI debugger provides a uniform GUI for all Agilent probes. The debugger provides a memory map window and several windows for emulator trace control, including trigger specification and trace display. Designers can easily set trigger conditions, create customized trigger locations, configure the size of the trace buffer, and create trace displays for source lines or specific events. The debugger window can display timing information at the source or assembly level. All of the emulator specific debug windows can be accessed anywhere within MULTI.

MULTI, together with Green Hills' family of optimizing C, C++, and EC++ compilers, automates all aspects of software development for most major embedded processors, including those from ARM, Motorola, MIPS, NEC, and Intel. MULTI features a window-oriented editor, source-level debugger, graphical program builder, run-time error checker, version control system, performance profiler, and real-time event analyzer. It also includes an instruction set simulator that allows programmers to develop and test code on a PC or workstation without the need for the target hardware.
