SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 17, 1996 - At the Embedded Systems Conference,
Green Hills Software today announced the integration of their optimizing C,
C++ and FORTRAN compilers and MULTI Software Development Environment with
Applied Microsystems Corporation's (NASDAQ: APMC) NetROM universal target
communicator providing a comprehensive debugging solution for embedded
development. Green Hills Software's support for Applied's NetROM includes
a complete suite of software development tools comprised of optimizing C,
C++ and FORTRAN compilers, a tool chain consisting of a macro assembler,
linker, and librarian, and the MULTI Software Development Environment.
This combination of tools brings a unique value proposition to Green Hills
and Applied Microsystems customers. MULTI's integration with Applied's
NetROM provides embedded customers a robust, integrated and intuitive
software/hardware debugging package. Existing Green Hills customers can
use MULTI for all phases of software development because MULTI now provides
complete control of embedded targets through NetROM's unique target
communication capability. Applied Microsystem's customers can now use
Green Hills tools for all phases of embedded development.
MULTI's ROM Monitor has been customized to take full advantage of the
NetROM features and services. Customers can easily download, execute and
control embedded applications with this new interface. MULTI's NetROM
server interface provides support for many of Applied's NetROM
applications: PowerPC, 680x0, 6830x, CPU32, R3000, SPARClite, and i960. The
target monitors for these microprocessors are supported with a single
version of MULTI and NetROM. This is a highly leverageable solution for
Applied's and Green Hills' customers. For example, a customer using Green
Hills MULTI with an Applied Microsystems NetROM, can upgrade to a new
target monitor, and use the same version of MULTI and NetROM. Using the
same interface allows customers to focus on embedded design, saving time,
and getting the product to market quicker, with no additional learning
curve.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with Green Hills Software, to
integrate NetROM with their productive MULTI Development Environment.
Applied Microsystems and Green Hills Software understand the special needs
of embedded systems developers and the combination of both companies'
expertise bring a superior value to embedded programmers," said Larry
Ritter, vice president for Applied's debug business group. "Green Hills
Software's broad processor coverage and their multi-platform support,
provide customers a comprehensive, easy-to-use software development
environment. The NetROM/Green Hills combination enhances the MULTI debug
environment by providing high-speed target-connectivity without using
target resources through a re-usable tool set," said Ritter.
"Applied Microsystems NetROM communications gateway is a unique and
valuable solution to target connectivity," said David Chandler, Vice
President of Sales for Green Hills Software. "Due to increasing pressures
for higher quality and also faster time to market, embedded developers want
a single, yet comprehensive, software development environment to satisfy
all their needs. By combining the performance and functionality of NetROM
and Green Hills optimizing compilers and MULTI integrated development
environment, developers are provided with a powerful and complete solution
for real-time embedded projects."
The leader in hardware-assisted embedded software design, debug
and test solutions, Applied Microsystems helps engineers develop
products faster, more reliably and at a lower
cost-per-engineer. Applied's tools include: in-circuit emulators, from
low-cost models designed especially for software engineers to powerful
full-scale models for both software and hardware development;
