BOSTON, March 11, 1997 - Green Hills Software and Chorus Systems
today announced the availabilityof the industry leading MULTI Development
Environment for the CHORUS/ClassiX communications-oriented real-time
operating system from Chorus Systems. Chorus customers can now use a
broad range of Green Hills development tools including C and C++
optimizing compilers, tool chains, utility programs and the MULTI
Development Environment to develop and debug complex multi-threaded
applications supported by Chorus/ClassiX from the application code level
down to the kernel execution level.
"We are pleased to have support from the leading tools vendor for
our application critical customers in telecommunications, ICD and other
embedded systems markets," says Fred Rehhausser, vp marketing at Chorus
Systems. "The MULTI Development Environment coupled with our advanced
OS provides a solution for seamlessly integrating embedded applications
that is second to none."
"The integration of MULTI with CHORUS/ClassiX gives customers a
complete off-the-shelf development and run-time environment for demanding
real-time applications, " says Dan O'Dowd, president of Green Hills
Software. "Our telecommunications and mission-critical customers,
especially, find CHORUS/ClassiX to be their preferred RTOS. Now they can
develop seamlessly with our optimizing compilers and MULTI, linked with
the embedded target system running CHORUS/ClassiX."
The first microprocessor families supported are the latest 68K family
of processors, the PowerPC family of processors, and microSPARC II. For
Motorola Coldfire, MIPS, and Intel 80x86 microprocessor families please
consult your local Green Hills representative. The Green Hills/Chorus package
includes a C compiler and MULTI Software Development Environment supporting
CHORUS/ClassiX on a Unix host.
CHORUS/ClassiX
CHORUS/ClassiX is a highly configurable, richly featured real-time
operating system. Users can easily tailor CHORUS/ClassiX at a very fine
grain level of real-time operating system services to meet specific
hardware and application requirements. The "Componentized OS"
architecture is industry unique and allows CHORUS/ClassiX to coherently
scale from very small 10K instances to highly distributed,
multiple-personality platforms including support for POSIX, third-party
RTOSes, and/or legacy OSes. CHORUS/ClassiX replaceable object-based
components are selected as needed to customize the real-time core
executive. Hot application restart, fair-share scheduling, and other high
availability enablers provide the necessary capability for mission
critical embedded systems.
Green Hills MULTI Development Environment The Green Hills
MULTI Development Environment provides a framework of interacting tools to
support development by small or large workgroups. MULTI includes all the
tools needed to support a major programming effort. These tools include a
source level debugger, program builder, configuration manager, version
control and program editor.
With this tool set, a programming team can perform run time error
checking and do execution profiling. These components communicate with
each other for enhanced functionality and support both native and embedded
development.
